RAIL passengers have been warned that industrial action will affect services on Hull Trains this weekend and into the week ahead. It means only one departure from Hull today – the 8.24am service – and only one return train, leaving King’s Cross at 11.48am.

The situation tomorrow will see three services out of Hull, at 8.59am, and 2.36 and 4.21pm, with nothing from Beverley at all. There will be minor changes on Monday and Wednesday with a normal service expected on Tuesday. More severe disruption will be experienced on Thursday and next Saturday, with no services in or out of Beverley and Hull. Up-to-date information can be accessed via hulltrains.co.uk

POLICE officers taking part in Operation Galileo are currently on high alert to prevent would-be hare courses coming into East Yorkshire now harvest is in full swing. Sgt Jenna Jones, from the Humberside Rural Task Force, told Beverley FM: “The good weather has brought the harvest forward and many of the crops have been brought in, leaving stubble fields with little protection for our brown hares.

She continued: “This is now the time of year where we see visiting criminals come to our area to hunt hares with dogs, a barbaric ‘sport’ known as hare coursing. We have been out across the area in recent weeks carrying out patrols. Hare coursers often use old 4x4s and carry lurcher-type dogs in their vehicles.  If you see any vehicle being driven in a suspicious way in our countryside please call us and report your concerns.”
