TOURISM businesses in Beverley and the wider East Riding are being urged to get their entries in for this year’s Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards before next month’s deadline. There are 16 REYTAs up for grabs, with categories including best B&B or guest house, best pub and best hotel.

One of the categories, the Remarkable Cuppa Award, recognises businesses that offer food, beverage and service innovation and excellence. BISHOP Burton College is playing host to hundreds of young riders and their families this week for the British Eventing International Youth Championships, which come to a close tomorrow. Competing riders from eight regions across the UK, including Bishop Burton student Lucy Proctor-Copeland, who is representing the North, paraded in the Bishop Burton Arena at the opening ceremony. 

The culmination of the evening was an amazing display by stunt rider Katharine Pickering, who has featured in productions such as Gentleman Jack, Victoria and Wonder Woman 1984. The awe-inspiring demonstration included daredevil trick riding, classical dressage and fire breathing. 

HOUSEHOLDS in Yorkshire have been warned that restrictions on water usage cannot be ruled out, due to concerns about a potential drought. Southern Water and South East Water have announced hosepipe bans over the last week following the UK’s driest eight-month period since 1976. Yorkshire Water has not introduced restrictions yet, but say they may be required in the coming months if the dry weather continues.
