THE BY-ELECTION to fill the Beverley Rural Ward seat on East Riding Council will be a three-way affair between the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Labour. The vacancy arose following the death of sitting councillor Pauline Greenwood, who topped the poll for the Conservatives at the last election.

The poll will take place on Thursday August 25 when the candidates will be: Peter Stevens (Conservative), Diana Stewart (Liberal Democrats) and Claire Wildey (Labour). 

BISHOP Burton College will open its doors to hundreds of talented young riders and spectators this week, as it hosts the British Eventing International Youth Championships.  The riders, all of whom are under 18, have been selected as the best in their region to compete in a range of dressage, showjumping and cross country classes from Thursday to Sunday. 

Catherine Sykes, Equine Event Co-ordinator at the college, said: “We’re especially excited that one of our own students – Lucy Proctor-Copeland – has been chosen to represent the North!”  Admission to the championships is free. More details here

POPULAR dementia-friendly film screenings return to the Parkway Cinema at Flemingate from Thursday September 8 after being postponed throughout the recent pandemic. Additional features to ensure maximum comfort and safety include a lower sound system, additional lighting in the auditorium and no pre-film advertising. The first film will be The Duke, starring Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent.
