A NEW cocktail bar, specialising in bespoke and classic cocktails, opens officially in Beverley today after a “soft opening” for family and friends last weekend. House of Bevs is the brainchild of co-owners Josh Sewell and Joe Welsh and occupies the former Travellers’ Rest cafe building close to the Beck.
Opening today: The House of Bees cocktail bar
The specially-designed cocktail glass
The chic, fashionable, setting will initially be open four days a week (Thursday to Sunday), serving cocktails and coffee. Josh told Beverley FM: “This is a new concept for the town and we’re all very excited to be bringing a touch of the big city to Beverley.” All the well-known cocktails will be available plus some created by Josh and Joe – the latter include The Budgie Smuggler, served in a special bird-shaped glass, described as a strawberry gin-based and creamed soda cocktail.
Another House of Bevs special is called It’s Ok Not To Be Ok – described as a twist on the popular Pornstar Martini, with 10% of sales being donated to charity. The cocktail bar, at 36 Beckside, Beverley, will be open from 4pm til late, Thursday and Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon.
A GARDEN with a difference in Leven will be open to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme for the first time on Sunday. 32 West Street, Leven, is described as “a quirky garden with themed areas, including tropical jungle planting, fairies and dinosaurs and an Oriental style nook and rockery.”
The family garden was begun nine years ago and has gradually evolved into a wonderfully chaotic mix of themes with some unusual plants and features, including a glass bottle wall. Open from 10am to 4pm, admission costs £4 (children free).
Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors the NGS scheme has donated more than £63 million to nursing and health charities and made an annual donation of over £3 million in 2021.
