Hall Road Rangers ended their 2021/22 home campaign with a defeat as they lost 0-3 against Dronfield Town at Haworth Park on Saturday. Inside the 1st minute of the game, Rangers could have taken the lead. However, Joe McFadyen saw an effort saved by Dronfield keeper Lewis Naylor.

Subsequently, Dronfield took the lead five minutes later. Danny Wood fired an effort into the back of the Rangers net. Joe McFadyen had another chance for Hall Road in the 14th minute with a strike which cannoned off the crossbar.

In the 18th minute, Sam Robinson passed up a good opportunity to get Rangers back on level terms. He went in one on one with Lewis Naylor and had his shot smothered. The visitors doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Connor Chapell converted a penalty.

Rangers made the worst possible start to the second half as Dronfield extended their lead in the 46th minute. Danny Wood managed to get his 2nd goal of the game as the visitors cut the Hall Road defence wide open.

Straight after that, Sam Robinson had a headed effort tipped over the bar by Lewis Naylor. Just before the final whistle, Robinson almost got a late consolation for Rangers when his shot was saved by Naylor.

Hall Road joint manager Leon Sewell was unhappy with his side’s performance.

“Dronfield scored more than we did and I think they definitely won the battle. Fair play to Chris and Nick at Dronfield.

I’ve known them for a long, long time and they’re two good guys who’ve got a good side. They’ve come here today and you’d have thought they were the home team the way that they played.

Bitterly disappointed again to lose at home considering it’s been such a tough place to come for teams over the season. I’ve said it more than once that we’re consistently inconsistent and we’re a nearly team and a mid-table team at present.

I think if we score after 60/90 seconds then it probably settles us down a little bit. We had a couple more chances, but we didn’t take them. At the same point, the two goals that were conceded in the first half are embarrassing.

I didn’t see the 3rd goal. I’ve been told that if I did see it then I’d have probably gone home.

Levels were nowhere near it today and not acceptable. The players have been told that.

Fair play to Dronfield as they’ve taken six points off us” he said.
