A raft of new bus journeys are set to launch across the East Riding from this weekend thanks to funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Extra runs are being added to the routes of nine bus services that already carry passengers, together with the creation of three brand new services, starting from Sunday 28 January.

They include new daytime, evening or weekend journeys, including services running in the Bridlington, Beverley, Withernsea, Driffield, South Cave, Hessle and Pocklington areas.

The improvements have been made possible thanks to the council being awarded Government funding of £2.4m over two years from the Department for Transport through its Bus Service Improvement Plan Plus (BSIP+) programme.

All the services are operated by East Yorkshire buses. The new journeys follow extra evening and weekend improvements already made to six bus services in November.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport said: “I’m delighted we can make these extra journeys possible for the benefit of passengers travelling across the East Riding. “We hope they will make a real difference to people who rely on buses to get around and be well used.”

The new journeys for the Beverley area include:

  • New service 144 South Cave – Brough – North Ferriby – Swanland – Beverley, starting Tuesday 30 January
New Tuesday and Thursday off-peak shopping service to Beverley. Departing South Cave 0930, Elloughton/Brough 0939, Welton 0949, North Ferriby 0959, Swanland 1004, arriving in Beverley at 1030. Returning at 1300 from Beverley.
  • Service 525 Beverley Town – Grovehill Service, starting Friday 2 February
New Friday/Saturday evening service, with three evening journeys. Departing Beverley at 2000, 2100 and 2200, serving Grovehill Road, Holme Church Lane & Flemingate. Please note buses will remain on Grovehill Road and not follow the daytime 525 route on Swinemoor Estate.
  • Service 142 Cherry Burton – Beverley, starting Friday 2 February
New Friday/Saturday evening service at 1940 from Cherry Burton to Beverley, returning at 2315.
  • Service 180 Skidby – Walkington – Beverley, starting Friday 2 February
